The Hive

The Hive, an extraordinary building, close to our hearts, built under the old Oak Tree. At the Heart of Welsummer stands our biggest tree. In 2005 we built a shelter with a particular family gathering in mind, we knew it would hold many memories for years to come. We built it with Chestnut poles carefully harvested from our own woods and topped it off with Oak board.

It has, over the past 5 years, organically progressed from a dining shelter into a beautiful cabin - a  'tree - house' and a

crafted work of many hands.

Hexagon shaped, like the bees would have it, the cabin hugs the underneath of the canopy, whilst leaving the tree trunk its own protected space behind glass at the centre, creating a truly extraordinary indoor space.

Inside one half of the cabin you will find a comfy double bed and a triple bunkbed (double with single over) making this enough for a family of 5 to sleep comfortably. There's plenty of comfortable seating and storage as well as a selection of games and practical equipment for your stay. The front half of the Hive is a wide covered porch giving indoor outdoor space, usable year round.

The Hive sits i a wide space at the centre of the site with 360 gardens and personal space with loungers hammock and firepit, or opening up to the rest of the site for groups and events.

Includes access to The 'Kitchen Cupboard' with plenty of exciting and practical cooking and dining equipment.
